Description of Services
Academic Advising and Support Services
Academic Advising (BSN and MSN – E)
Upon admission to UMSON, you will be assigned an academic advisor who will guide you in the development of educational plans that are consistent with your goals. Our services include:
- Academic course selection
- Adding/dropping/withdrawing from courses
- Assistance navigating UMSON policies and procedures as outlined in the UMSON Student Handbook.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licensure guidance
Academic Success Coaching
To support you with your academic goals, UMSON offers academic coaching to support you in identifying roadblocks, uncovering obstacles, and generating new paths forward toward academic success. Our services include:
- Academic tutoring (in-person and virtual)
- Test-taking and study strategies and study skill building tips
- Time/stress management strategies and tips
To schedule a 1:1 60-minute Academic Success Coaching appointment with an academic advisor, please log on to Careers4Nurses.
Peer-Led Academic Support
Students needing academic support may opt to engage in either Learning Lab or Peer-led Tutoring sessions. These support services are led by UMSON students who have successfully completed the courses they lead and who have completed training in how to conduct study sessions. All services are FREE to current UMSON students.
Learning Labs (BSN & MSN-E only)
Learning Lab sessions are group sessions held in a classroom or virtually. Days and times for Learning Lab Sessions will be communicated by course faculty and/or Learning Lab Leaders through Blackboard and email.

MSN-E courses: 510, 512, 515
Peer-led tutoring (all current UMSON students)

Please read the University of Maryland School of Nursing Peer Tutoring Agreement prior to seeking tutoring services. Students are responsible for following the policies in this document should they seek/use tutoring services offered through UMSON.
