The Dean's Scholarship Scholars (DSS) Program is designed to provide dedicated time and mentorship for individuals seeking to enhance their research and scholarship endeavors.
The primary focus of the program is to strengthen writing and publication skills, with the ultimate goal of publishing in peer-reviewed journals or contributing chapters to textbooks.
As a DSS, you will receive one semester or six months of protected time, allowing you to concentrate on your research and scholarly activities. Additionally, you will have access to valuable editorial resources to support your publication efforts. The program encourages various activities, such as submitting abstracts and manuscripts on quality improvement initiatives, state-of-the-art clinical topics, or research findings. Furthermore, participation in writing accountability groups will provide you with additional support, guidance, and a sense of shared progress.
Appointment as a DSS is a competitive process open to early- to mid-career (assistant or associate professor) faculty members who demonstrate exceptional potential and dedication to research and scholarship. We encourage all eligible faculty members to consider applying for this program.
For further information on the DSS Program and the application process, please refer to the guidelines or contact the Office of Research and Scholarship at nrsresearch@umaryland.edu.
Applications are due October 1st and May 1st for the following semester.
