Scholarship Details by Program
RN-to-BSN/RN-to-MSN
“The financial help that I am receiving means that I do not have to worry about picking up extra shifts at work to cover my tuition, fees, and studying materials, and there are no words to express how grateful I am for this.”
– Gerome Vallao, RN-to-BSN Student
How It Works:
- The scholarship is available to entering (new to UMSON) students and covers 50% of in-state tuition and fees. It will be awarded for the duration of your academic program.
- For RN-to-MSN students: The scholarship covers these items for the RN-to-BSN portion of your program only. You are welcome to apply for an additional Conway Scholarship to cover the remainder of your MSN program once you have completed 9 credits of graduate study and as long as you have half of your graduate credits remaining.
- Please note that every institution has its own in-state residency requirements. Familiarize yourself with the University of Maryland, Baltimore requirements prior to applying for this scholarship.
- You must already have completed an application to UMSON prior to applying for the Conway Scholarship; however, it is not necessary to await an admission decision prior to applying.
- To be eligible, you must register for a minimum of two courses per semester. Summer courses are optional; however, if you choose to take courses during the summer, you must take two.
- You'll work with an advisor to ensure you maintain the correct academic courseload; see the Courses You'll Take dropdown on the Online RN-to-BSN webpage.
- You’ll be connected to a faculty mentor who will share their background and experience with you and who can help you:
- explore your academic interests and discuss your academic progress
- identify short- and long-term career goals
- broaden your support network
- build upon your strengths to grow personally and professionally.
You may receive your admission decision before you receive information about the status of your Conway scholarship application. All RN-to-BSN Conway Scholarship decisions are made after the scholarship application deadline, regardless of the date of your acceptance to UMSON.
Applicants Must:
- be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- submit an essay of 500 words or less that addresses these questions:
- How will this scholarship affect your life and career aspirations?
- How will you use the knowledge you acquire to impact future patients, the nursing profession, and/or nursing science?
- Tell us about a time you had to overcome a significant barrier or hardship in your education or personal life and what you learned about yourself in the process.
Conway Scholars Must:

Conway Scholars cannot receive any other scholarship that, when added to the Conway Scholarship, exceeds the total tuition and fees for that specific term.
