✓ Setup UMID and review laptop requirements.
UMID Creation: the UMID is your unique UMB user name, and grants access to many UMB systems, including email
- Set up your UMID Account which is required for the completion of the remaining steps
- Once created, your umaryland.edu email account will be the primary source of all SON and UMB communication
- Please review information about the timing, creation, validation, and access below:
- Create your UMID before proceeding with steps 3 through 7.
- Allow at least 2 business days for UMID creation
- Your umaryland.edu email account will be the primary source of all SON and UMB communication. It can take a few days after you have paid your seat deposit (via the accepted student page) for your email account to be created. Once it has been created, you will receive an email with the subject "Welcome to Office 365 - University of Maryland, Baltimore - Action Needed" Note that this may end up in your spam or junk email folder. The email will inform you of your new email address and a specific step you will need to complete to validate and activate your email.
- Once your email has been created, you will need to log into https://directory.umaryland.edu with your UMID and password to validate and make your email account active. If you go there and this option is not yet available, your email account has not been created and is awaiting processing. Once these steps have been completed, you will be able to log in to send and receive emails using your UMaryland account at https://portal.office.com
You will also need to comply with our laptop requirement.
You will be required to have a laptop that meets UMSON’s minimum technology requirements (see laptop minimum specifications) and can be brought to class for use in classroom assignments. If you need to purchase a laptop, the cost may be included with your financial aid cost of attendance package because it is a program requirement.
