Overview
The Maryland Action Coalition (MDAC) strives to improve health care by implementing the 2010 Future of Nursing: Leading Change Advancing Health recommendations.
- The 2017 Summit looks back on strategic actions undertaken by MDAC to address academic progression, transition to practice, nursing leadership, and other collaborative efforts to improve health care services in Maryland.
- Attendees will examine and discuss the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Culture of Health framework as a lens with which to focus future initiatives.
- Attendees will examine and discuss current priorities as well as help shape MDAC's agenda for the upcoming year.
We welcome everyone to the summit and are proud to be a part of this nationwide movement.
Objectives
At the end of the summit, attendees will be able to describe:
- key features of the Culture of Health framework
- Culture of Health initiatives occurring in the state of Maryland
- the historic background and relevance of the Nursing Support II (NSPII) program
- the scope of NSPII funded programs and their outcomes.
Continuing Education for Nurses
Nurses may receive 6.5 contact hours upon successful completion of this educational activity and payment of fee. Successful completion is demonstrated by attending the entire summit and submitting completed program evaluation and verification of attendance forms. Partial credit is not provided.
Participants will receive a continuing education (CE) certificate via email from the University of Maryland School of Nursing within four weeks after submitting their request for CE along with required documents. All requests for CE must be received within 90 days of the conference.
The University of Maryland School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Nurses may receive six contact hours upon successful completion of this continuing nursing education (CE) activity and $30 payment. Successful completion is demonstrated by attending the entire summit and submitting a completed program evaluation and verification of attendance forms. Partial credit is not provided. Participants will receive a CE certificate via email from UMSON within four weeks after submitting their request, verification form, and completing the online evaluation. All requests for CE must be received within 90 days of the conference. UMSON is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
*The National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education awarded grants to 16 academic institutions nationwide – including $50,000 to the University of Maryland, Baltimore; to boost community-based interprofessional education and practice. The University’s Center for Interprofessional Education provided $50,000 in matching funds to facilitate the project.
**The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) was awarded a $150,000 State Implementation Program (SIP) grant through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and AARP. SIP grants were created to support the implementation of the State Campaign for Action Coalitions of the Institute of Medicine’s recommendations outlined in its 2010 report, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.”

The closest airport to the University of Maryland School of Nursing is BWI. Drive time from BWI to the School is approximately 15 minutes.
