The GNA represents the interests of all UMSON master's students. GNA’s purpose is to serve as an advocate for all master’s students, encourage fellowship among its members, create a sense of unity, and facilitate communication with members of the faculty and staff. Visit the GNA website.
NGH promotes global health awareness and activities at UMSON. NGH’s mission is to strengthen the engagement of the University of Maryland and the global health community by building collaborations, creating networks, and becoming a resource center for global health opportunities in nursing. NGH supports UMSON’s vision of creating a rich and vibrant working and learning environment, with a focus on expanding and sharing knowledge of global health issues. Monthly meetings, cinema presentations, and the annual Global Health conference provide opportunities for interprofessional collaboration between students and faculty and participation in global health activities. All UMSON undergraduate students are members of the NSGA. The purpose of the NSGA is to encourage fellowship among students and create a sense of unity, cooperation, and understanding between faculty members and students. NSGA provides a forum where students can voice their opinions and have an influence on UMSON. The NSGA seeks to enhance students' experiences by organizing activities and educational opportunities. SUPER, an UMSON student chapter of AcademyHealth, is a student group whose members strive to educate themselves and others on current health care research development and policy practices. SUPER’s parent organization, AcademyHealth, is a premier advocate for health services research and policy advancement. With their guidance, SUPER hosts legislators and other policymakers from the local, state, and national levels; health services researchers; and those working within the health care system in non-governmental roles to share their experiences with the University of Maryland population. SUPER also participates in state health care advocacy events, such as the School of Nursing’s Advocacy Day in Annapolis, allowing students to apply what they have learned about health services policy. UMANS is the University of Maryland's chapter of the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA). UMANS members must be NSNA members and participate in UMANS events and fundraising to attend the NSNA annual convention. Visit the UMANS website.
GSA is a student-run organization serving and representing all graduate students at the University of Maryland (UM). It acts as a liaison to the Graduate School, communicates student concerns and ideas, supports graduate student research interests, and provides a platform for discussing matters that affect graduate student life.
USGA is a University-wide student government organization that represents all UM students. It is comprised of student senators elected annually to represent each school at monthly meetings (usually the second Wednesday of each month). Its main purpose is to enhance the quality of student life by promoting the free exchange of ideas, advocacy for student rights, and financial co-sponsorship of events and activities, e.g., Fall Fest, social nights, educational programs, etc.
UM has three additional University- wide student groups: the International Student Organization (with several ethnic and national subgroups), Muslim Student and Scholars Association, and United Students of African Descent.
