The Planning Committee of the Summer Institute in Nursing Informatics, 2008 is seeking abstracts that address the theme “Building Connections for Patient-Centered Records”.
Session tracks include:
A. Privacy, Security, and Communication of Patient-Centered Records
- Determining ownership and control of personal health information
- Maintaining privacy and security of patient-centered records
- Communicating information to and from patient-centered records
B. Continuity of the Patient-Centered Record
- Managing handoffs
- Creating health information networks
- Developing and implementing standards for interoperability
- Balancing privacy and need-to-know
C. Implementation of Patient-Centered, Evidence-Based Care
- Changing models of care
- Changing organizational structures, roles, and processes
- Introducing evidence-based decision support
D. Facilitation of Personal and Family Health Management
- Monitoring health conditions and trends
- Finding and applying knowledge resources
- Communicating with providers
- Building online support groups
E. Data Quality and Accuracy in Patient-Centered Records
- Assuring data quality and accuracy for clinical decision making
- Assessing data quality and accuracy for secondary use or re-use (e.g., quality improvement, surveillance, research)
- Determining trustworthiness of the data source (provider, patient, biometric monitor)
- Assessing and managing the influences of the data collection and storage media on the quality, accuracy, and completeness of the data
F. Secondary Use and Re-Use of Data from Patient-Centered Records
- Determining appropriateness of secondary uses and re-uses
- Considering issues to set policy about data re-use
- Establishing authorization requirements for re-use of data
