Tips to Keep in Mind
- Research employers before they have a chance to research you.
- Make sure you can produce exellent references.
- If it isn’t obvious, find out why they have job vacancies.
- If you can, spend a day on the unit that interests you.
- While spending your day on the unit, ask the nurses about their jobs and if they enjoy their work environment.
- Find out the retention rate, not just of the nurses, but of all staff. High turnover is not a good sign.
- Read any contract carefully, and have someone you trust read it over, too.
- Never overlook a direct contact with an employer.
- Setbacks are inevitable; do not get discouraged. If you are patient, you definitely will get the job you want.
- And one last piece of advice: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Do your research!
