Community/Public Health Nursing
This master’s specialty prepares students for advanced practice in community/public health nursing. The curriculum focuses on health promotion and disease prevention. Students explore health needs of select populations in community contexts and develop expertise in epidemiology, program planning and evaluation. Students also develop grant writing, organizational analysis and public messaging skills. Graduates are able to implement core public health principles and practice in a variety of settings, including local and state health departments, federal and state agencies, schools and non-governmental agencies. Graduates are eligible for certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Community/Public Health Nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Web-based courses may be available. Full-time, part-time and post-master’s options are available.

Community/Public Health Nursing with Emphasis in Environmental Health
The Community/Public Health specialty offers focused study with additional course work in environmental health. The Environmental Health option prepares nurses to address the human health effects associated with environmental risks. Special vulnerabilities of children, pregnant women, older adults, minorities and the chronically ill are explored. Full-time, part-time and post-master’s options are available.
