Gerontological Nurse Practitioner

Effective Fall 2008, the Gerontological NP program has been combined with the Adult NP program to respond to trends in the U.S. population. The information on this page is applicable to all prospective students.

This master's specialty prepares students to be advanced practice nurses with expertise in diagnosis and management of common illnesses, disease prevention, and management of older adults with acute and chronic illnesses. The curriculum emphasizes course work, laboratory, and clinical experiences. Students work with faculty nurse practitioners and physician preceptors in a variety of clinical practicum sites. Graduates are eligible for certification as gerontological nurse practitioners by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Web-based courses may be available. Full-time, part-time, and post-master’s options are available.
