Doctor of Nursing Practice
Admission Requirements
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in a program resulting in the award of a master’s degree in nursing from an NLNAC- or CCNE-accredited college or university, or an equivalent degree from a comparable foreign university
- Official transcripts for all prior undergraduate and graduate study
- Three letters of recommendation
- An interview with selected applicants will be arranged after the applications are received and reviewed
- 500 to 1,000-word essay outlining goals, objectives, and focused area of interest in pursuing the DNP
- Current RN license (Clinical agencies may require a Maryland license.)
- Current resume or curriculum vitae
English Proficiency Requirement
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of applicants for whom English is not their native language and for those who do not have a degree from a U.S. institution. A score report is sent to the School of Nursing by the agency. Minimum scores are 550 for the paper-based examination, 213 for the computer-based examination, and 80 for the Internet-based examination. For more information, go to www.toelf.org. Academic Evaluation of Foreign Course Work
Applications and official transcript(s) from students who completed a course work outside the United States must be evaluated by a recognized international credit evaluation service. Only the following agencies are acceptable:
- World Evaluation Services (http://www.wes.org);
- Education Credential Evaluators (http://www.ece.org); and
- Foreign Education Credential Services (http://www.aacrao.org).
