The School of Nursing has pioneered a variety of innovative educational programs, including the first nursing informatics program in the world. Numerous specialties are offered at the graduate level, including nurse anesthesia, informatics, community/public health, and nursing administration. Nurse practitioner options are also offered in pediatrics, adult/gerontology, and psychiatric mental health, among others.
A variety of flexible and combined programs are offered to accelerate degree completion. These include the Clinical Nurse Leader degree option, the RN-BSN online, the RN-MS, and the post-baccalaureate entry option into the PhD program. A joint MS/JD degree is also available, offered in conjunction with the University of Maryland School of Law. An MS/MBA and a PhD/MBA are offered in conjunction with the University of Baltimore Robert G. Merrick School of Business and the University of Maryland College Park Robert H. Smith School of Business. Partnership programs for BSN completion join the School of Nursing with the University of Maryland Baltimore County, University of Maryland College Park, Washington College in Chestertown, as well as all of Maryland's community colleges.
To provide clinical programs for students, the School maintains affiliations with more than 300 hospitals and health care entities throughout Maryland, and operates a mobile health clinic for people who are uninsured. In addition, the 154,000 square-foot building in Baltimore and the School’s Montgomery County site at the Universities at Shady Grove house state-of-the-art clinical simulation and standardized patient laboratories that afford our students extensive hands-on training in a real-life setting.
These varied, innovative approaches to clinical instruction enhance students’ learning experiences, as well as provide vital health care services to Maryland residents.
The School also offers a wide range of courses at off-campus locations. Students can enroll at numerous outreach sites throughout the state, permitting residents of remote, educationally under-served areas to complete undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing. The School incorporates the most advanced distance learning technology, classroom design, and laboratory design to link regional, national, and international audiences and provide a state-of-the-art educational experience.
