Dr. Deborah McGuire of the University of Maryland School of Nursing is awarded a 6th year of funding from the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® for the Komen Maryland Nursing Partnership: Advancing Education and Practice.

The Komen Maryland Affiliate Nursing Partnership: Advancing Education and Practice is an expert-driven, efficient and effective strategy to bring breast cancer information into the nursing curriculum.

The aim of the grant is to heighten the awareness, knowledge and skills of faculty, students, practicing nurses and community members about the prevention and detection of breast cancer and the treatment options for people with breast cancer.  The grant uses five interrelated components: the Komen Visiting Professor, the Komen Scholar-in-Residence, the Komen Distinguished Lectureship, the Komen Conferees, and the Komen Educational Outreach.

We are pleased to announce that we have been funded for a sixth year and will now be partnering with Salisbury University along with Coppin State University and Bowie State University to bring vital breast cancer education to their nursing students. Also, because breast cancer is a complex disease and its treatment requires the support of a multidisciplinary host of health care professionals, we will continue our activities with the University of Maryland Schools of Social Work and Pharmacy.
