The mean salary for DNP-prepared NNPs is $121,000, according to NAAN’s 2016 Workforce Survey.
Neonatal nurse practitioners are in high demand — and not just by their young patients. As one of very few Doctor of Nursing Practice options in the country, our Neonatal Nurse Practitioner specialty prepares you to provide the best care for the smallest patients and their parents when they need it most.
In a role that integrates practice, management, education, and research, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners are primary care and acute care practitioners that make a difference every day in the lives of preterm and full-term infants, neonates, and children up to age two.
What you’ll learn:
You’ll be prepared for advanced practice in neonatal intensive care units, transport roles, step-down units, newborn nurseries, developmental follow-up clinics, and primary care settings.
You’ll take classes in areas including:
- pharmacology
- pathophysiology
- advanced health assessment across the lifespan
- neonatal and pediatric pathophysiology/assessment
- in-depth neonatal-specific diagnoses and management.
As a graduate, you can sit for the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam and be nationally certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Neonatal Nurse Practitioner).
Why choose this program?
- You can complete it in the timeframe that works best for you, with three, four-, and five-year options.
- Neonatal and pediatric NP students take several of their clinical courses together, so you’ll benefit from the expertise of faculty and students in and out of your specialty.
- You can enter the program without previous neonatal nursing experience if you’re employed in a NICU at the time of your application/acceptance.
- You’ll be placed in an individual practicum that’s the best fit for you, due to our strong relationships with our clinical partners. We tailor the clinical experiences for each NNP student.
- You’ll have access to state-of-the-art neonatal simulation models that prepare you for collaborative management approaches and procedural expertise using real-life scenarios.
- You’ll be ready for a direct patient care position with Level II, III, and IV neonatal intensive care units, as well as in newborn nurseries, developmental and subspecialty follow-up clinics, and primary care practices.
This program is offered as a great mix of face-to-face, supportive instruction and online classes, all with faculty who are experts in their areas of specialty.
