The institute has two primary initiatives:
- Preparing nurses for faculty roles in Maryland nursing schools and for educator roles in clinical settings
- Providing ongoing professional development for faculty and educators in clinical settings
Since its inception in 2004, nearly 800 graduate and post-graduate students have taken academic courses in the Institute for Educators' Maryland Higher Education Commission approved Teaching in Nursing and Health Professions Certificate. This 12-credit, post-graduate certificate prepares nurses and other health professionals with graduate degrees for teaching roles.
By developing, preparing, and supporting nursing faculty and educators in clinical settings, the institute offers professional development initiatives that include an annual conference, teaching grand rounds, workshops, and information found on this website. Members of the institute also work with individual faculty members and perform peer review.
