Institute for Educators in Nursing and Health Professions

The University of Maryland School of Nursing’s Institute for Educators in Nursing and Health Professions is focused on strategies for resolving aspects of the ongoing and deepening nurse faculty shortage. Since the Institute’s inception in 2004, its emphasis has been on developing, educating, and supporting nurse faculty. Two congressional directives have provided support for development of the Institute’s core initiatives, which include:
- A 12-credit, post-graduate Teaching in Nursing and Health Professions Certificate Program supported in part by a Nurse Support II Grant under the auspices of the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission and approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. The certificate prepares nurses and other health professionals with graduate degrees for teaching roles.
- Faculty Development Central where announcements, information about current issues in nursing education, and upcoming events related to nursing education can be found.
- An online nurse Faculty Resource Center offering a range of information such as modules, videos, and selected references in a Blackboard format.
