Role: PI
$250,000 in direct costs - My laboratory focuses on the basic pathobiology underlying two main clinical problems; neurodegenerative diseases and acute and chronic pain processing. In both cases, we are interested in how neurotrophins and their receptors contribute to the underlying pathology of these disorders. We use animal models, including genetically modified mice (knockout, knockin, transgenic), to study these diseases using a variety of in vivo and in vitro methods. Some of the laboratory techniques that we routinely use include primary cell culture, behavioral testing, whole animal perfusion and cryofixation, brain sectioning, western, northern and southern blotting, PCR, calcium imaging, immunohistochemistry, brightfield and fluorescence microscopy.
