Research:
- Dr. Jane Lipscomb is Director of the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMAB) School of Nursing, Center for Excellence in Occupational and Environmental Health and Justice. She has conducted research into the prevention of occupational injuries and illness in the health care and social service workplace for over twenty years. Prior to joining the faculty at UMAB, Dr. Lipscomb spent three years as a senior scientist in the Office of the Director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and five years at the University of California, at San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing, as Assistant Professor and Director of the graduate program in Occupational Health Nursing. Her currently funded research includes the following three R01s.
- Evaluation of Workplace Violence prevention Intervention. Dr. Lipscomb is the Principal Investigator of this grant funded by the CDC/NIOSH. The major objectives of this project are to evaluate risk factors for assault in the social service workplace and to implement and evaluate the impact of a comprehensive violence prevention program on staff.
- Extended Work Schedules and Workplace Injury in Nurses. Dr. Lipscomb is the Co-PI of this grant funded by the CDC/NIOSH. The major objective of this project is to investigate the relationship between extended work schedules and musculoskeletal pain/disorders and needlestick injuries via a longitudinal mailed survey of registered nurses.
- Blood Exposure and Primary Prevention in the Home Care Workplace. Dr. Lipscomb is the Principal Investigator of this grant funded by CDC/NIOSH. This study develops, implements, and evaluates effective intervention strategies for blood exposure in for the home care workers.
