VA Educational Benefits Information

If you are a newly admitted or continuing student that is eligible to receive Veterans Administration education benefits and would like to use your benefits while attending UMB please read the following instructions on how to proceed with becoming certified.

Graduate (MS) and doctoral (BSN to PhD and PhD) students wanting to use their benefits must contact Gayeann Day in the office of Graduate Enrollment Affairs at 410-706-4626 or via email at gday@umaryland.edu in order to be certified.

All Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students (authorization for Doctor of Nursing Practice students is pending) enrolled in the School of Nursing (SON) are certified through the SON's Office of Admissions and Student Affairs.

Documentation and Forms

All new students must submit the following documentation prior to being certified:

  • Copy of Certificate of Eligibility
  • Copy of Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty: Form DD214*
  • Copy of Change of Program/Place of Training: Form 22-1995 or 22-5495.* Student should submit form to the Department of Veterans Affairs prior to requesting certification.
  • VA Intent Form (Word document) Student is responsible for submitting form every semester (summer/fall or winter/spring) they intend to use their benefits. If you are active duty you must also submit a copy of your tuition bill for each semester.
