UMSON is committed to the success of students enrolled in the BSN program, therefore, orientation is mandatory for all students. As new entry-into-practice students, we want to make sure that you successfully transition into the program and understand all the resources available to you to make your experience rewarding.
Entry-into practice students (traditional BSN and CNL) have a two-part orientation program. Students at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) will receive the same content, but orientation will be offered at a different time (see below). For students enrolling at the Baltimore location, the schedule will be as follows.
Part I – Student Success Immersion Program
Part I of orientation is a Student Success Immersion Program (SSIP) occurring at UMSON’s Baltimore location in the summer, with five dates from which to choose. The all-day program provides students with the tools and refresher skills to be successful in their first semester and beyond. Students will have an opportunity to interact with other students in their cohort in a small group setting, review concepts of anatomy and physiology, and discuss skills related to medical dosage calculations. Students receive an introduction to the Web-based systems used for UMSON classes and tips for success from current students. The dates for the SSIP are as follows:
Please call 410-706-5426 to register for one of the program dates above. Space is limited to 15 students per session, so sign up early.
Part II – Campus Orientation
All students enrolling at the Baltimore location will attend the campus orientation on Tuesday, August 21, regardless of the date they have selected for Part I orientation. During this orientation, students will receive information about UMSON policies and procedures, as well as further information about UMSON and University of Maryland resources.
For students enrolling at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) location, part I and 2 orientation will take place on consecutive days at USG and cover content identical to that delivered at the Baltimore location. The two-part orientation will be held August 15 and 16, 2012.
Day 1 – Campus Orientation
All students enrolling at the USG location will attend campus orientation on August 15, 2012. During this orientation, students will receive information about USG policies and procedures.
