As global attention focuses on vaccine development to stop the spread of COVID-19, this webinar will explore the topic of vaccines from the lens of bioethics and religion, with perspectives from various health disciplines. Where do individual rights fit in when public health is threatened? What roles do psychology, faith, and reasoning play in decision-making about whether to trust or reject science? How do different health professions contribute to vaccine development, research, vaccine distribution, and public health education? This program is geared toward health care providers, ethics committee members, members of faith communities, and anyone interested in learning more about these issues at this extraordinary time in our interdependent society.

Conference Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe how both legitimate concerns and misinformation about vaccine safety contribute to a lower adoption of vaccination
- List the ethical issues that arise when autonomy based on personal or religious beliefs causes one to decline vaccination
- Identify the factors that lead to disparities in access to vaccination
- Explain the ethical issues that arise when patient autonomy puts public health at risk
- Describe challenges of members of the interprofessional health care team in promoting public health related to the COVID-19 vaccination.

Nurses may receive 3.0 contact hours upon successful completion of this educational activity. Successful completion of this activity for Continuing Education (CE) requires attending the entire activity, completion of the online CE evaluation, and completion of the verification of attendance form via email. Partial credit is not provided. Participants receive a CE certificate via email from the University of Maryland School of Nursing approximately two to four weeks after submitting their request and required documentation. All requests must be received within 30 days of the conference.
